At the Mere of Dead Faces, Frodo became entranced by these lights and tried to reach out and touch the faces of the dead at the bottom of the marshes, though Sam broke him out of his trance. It seems that the bodies only appear in the water when the lights are lit. The Passage was marked by lights that danced about and candles which Gollum called " candles of corpses" it is likely that those who become entranced by these lights and attempt to touch the bodies drown in the water and go down to join the dead. They entered the Dead Marshes at Dawn on the 1st of March. The War of the Ringĭuring the quest to destroy the One Ring, Gollum led Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee through the marshes. Aragorn captured Gollum here, on Februand took him to Mirkwood. The Dead Marshes were located north-west of the Morannon, and southeast of the Emyn Muil. The general Eärnil then defeated the Wainriders at the Battle of the Camp in TA 1944, they were driven into the marshes where most perished. Over time, the battlefield became marshes, which swallowed up the dead, though their bodies could still be seen floating in the water (although, according to Gollum, they are not physically there, and only appear as visions).ĭuring Gondor's war with the Wainriders, King Ondoher's army was caught by surprise and some of his defeated army attempted to escape into the marshes, only to drown. The Dead Marshes were part of the ancient battlefield of the Battle of Dagorlad between the Last Alliance and the forces of Mordor, where many of the fallen were laid to rest. Sorry for the inconvenience. The marshes predated the battle, but were not named until after. I'm sorry to disappoint, but the Dead Warrior is more accurate than the skeleton. Thank you for supporting! * Due to the amount of people wanting the Dead Warrior to be changed to the skeleton, I have decided to NOT change it. Without you, this set wouldn't be what it is now. Thank you to the fellow supporters for the input! I think it looks better than before. I have just made the first revision, transforming the rock with the ring in it (see comments) into a rock with vegetation on it. Please support and tell me if you want anything changed. Under Gollum is the Dead Warrior lying in the Dead Marshes. In the background you will see the bog rock, sitting there doing nothing in particular. Here (Directly below) is a view of Gollum's hiding cave. (Above description for picture directly below) The tree above them is dying and browning. Not to far away from them is a little rock with a bunch of vegetation on top. On one end of the plank walkway, Frodo and Sam are standing under a tree waiting also for the Black Rider to fly away. It comes with 4 minifigs: Frodo Baggins with Sting and ring, Samwise Gamgee with sword, Gollum, and a Dead Warrior. There are about 100-250 pieces in the set alone. It was the hardest part of the set to design. Gollum sits in a little cave while the Black Rider passes over the bog. As you may see, there is a dead person under the marsh where Gollum waits for Frodo and Sam. In this particular scene, Gollum, Frodo Baggins, and Samwise Gamgee are trying to take a path to Mount Doom, Mordor. This is the Dead Marshes from LotR the Two Towers.
